Is Sheila A Bully?

Oh yes Sheila Kwamboka is a bully in the house. She has bright ideas and feels frustrated if nobody listens to her so she turns to bullying. But she's a friendly bully.

And the gossip has started. If you thought guys don't gossip say hello to gossipers Ricco and Uti. They shamelessly gossiped about Tawana.

Sheila also led a group so desperate to gossip that they locked themselves in the toilet. They could not leave even when another housemate wanted to use it. That was a shame!

I's too early to predict who will win but it's now not difficult to see who will not. And that is Mimi. Of course I could be wrong.

Lerato SA & Sheila Kenya

Picture Courtesy of Drum East Africa.

Remember Ashanti? The Kenyan girl who had been sent into BBA2 to destabilize Richard and Tatiana. She and the other guy she was sent with goofed so much that the housemates immediately suspected that they were fake housemates.

Ashanti is living it big in South Africa as a model and face of leading South African designer Jo Borkett. She’s married to an Irish man.

In an interview with Drum East Africa, she disclosed that she lives in a designer house, has 3 cars and two dogs - among other things of course. She adds that her pride and joy is her BMW Cabriolet 328i. She also takes part in the hit show Deal or no Deal.

Back to Big Brother Africa III:

Lerato Sengani wrote an article about BBAIII which you can read on tvsa.co.za. This is what she had to say about Sheila, ‘Kenya – Ok ok…when she was walking in I thought “It might not be so bad after all”! That was until sms’s and phone calls came pouring in saying that this chick was emulating me. Oh well, let her try. I just think that she tries too hard at times but she was better than the two that had entered.

Sheila emulating Lerato? Ok she does remind one of Lerato but I don’t think she’s purposely emulating her. Why would she want to do that? Lerato was not a winner.

BBA3 Housemates

Is it just me or are there some resemblances here?

The housemates this time seem to have gelled well so far if all the talking in the house is anything to go by. It may shape up to be the most interesting BBA group so far. Our Kenyan Girl Sheila looks so much at home in there. And the girl can talk!

There seems to be signs of coupling already. Or what is that with Latoya and Morris?

Latoya there is a thin line between being interesting and being cheap. Play it cool.

Big Brother Africa III Contestants

Big Brother Africa finally opened it’s doors. The designers this time have gone flat out to make a magnificent house – the mishmash of colours notwithstanding. Clearly money has been poured. The house, garden and pool area are all better than the previous ones. The contestants trooped in thus:

  • First in was 30 year old clean shaven Tawana of Botswana. In her own words, she hates women and does not like being with them, she hates her neighbours and she has no friends. In her life, it’s either her way or the highway. What a grand opening of BBA3!

Tawana did not live upto to her words though. Being the first in, she was the perfect hostess, very welcoming and sweet to the ladies that came in after her. She had made it sound like she could slap any woman in sight!

  • Second in was 27 year old Mimi from Ghana. She knows she’s beautiful and intelligent. She loves to dance.

  • Third was 23 year old Sheila from Kenya. She’s not your ordinary girl and she loves her booze. She hates liars (don’t we all). For her Big Brother Africa III is not a game or a battle. It’s war so the other contestants better watch out. Compared to Jeff who mostly looked lost, Sheila looked like she’s in the right place from the word go.

  • Forth in was Hazel from Malawi. Says she has a perfect body which she loves. She has no fears whatsoever.

  • Namibian Lucille (21) came in fifth. She’s a shy, honest and very giving person. The girl looks indeed shy. A complete departure from Meryl in BBA2.

  • Latoya from Tanzania came in sixth and made a screaming entrance. She believes she’s charming, photogenic, stubborn and sometimes moody.

  • 21 year old Ricco from Angola was seventh in. He loves girls and football and dislikes boring people.

  • 25 year old Nigerian Uti was eighth. He’s spontaneous and does not give a hoot what people think. He can’t stand dishonest people.

  • Ninth in was Thami (26) from South Africa. To be honest I did not get a word of what Thami said. But he’s in the house to look for a relationship.

  • Morris of Uganda was 10th in. He’s a photographer and he appreciates beautiful ladies. He fears death. He hates lazy people and cowards.

  • Zambian Takodwa was eleventh. He’s 25 and drinks and gambles a lot. He’s a rapper.

  • Last in was Munya (22) from Zimbabwe. He says he was born to be on television. He’s sincere and stubborn. The guy looks very very cheeky. Let’s wait and see.

Update on BBA2 Contestants

The show kicked off yesterday August 24th amid pomp and fanfare. The race for the US$100,000.00 is on.

Eve De Souza is Kenya’s field presenter – good choice.

There were brief interviews of BBA2 contestants, all of whom claim that the show gave them the exposure they desired.

Justice Botswana – Got debating exposure.

Jeff Kenya – Overwhelmed by the success of his novel Religion Is Fiction.

Meryl Namibia– Became a celeb of sorts. Went into acting and movies.

Max Zambia– Business is good. Spare parts and computer accessories.

Lerato South Africa – Treated like a VIP all the way.

Bertha Zimbabwe – has travelled a lot and has become a continental Celeb.

Kwaku Ghana – Working on an album. He has his own NGO and his own Radio show. He also does business in jewelry.

Code Malawi – Doing TV and Radio advertising.

Maurine Uganda – Now engaged and doing just fine.

Tatiana Angola – Has lots of fans. She got the exposure she wanted so as to get into acting. She’s doing well.

Ofuneka Nigeria– Has her own NGO (Ofuneka Youths). The Nigerian information minister congratulated her for the intelligence and high moral characteristics she displayed in the house.

Richard Tanzania – He now has a production company. He has already done a movie. He’s with his wife and he loves her.

Big Brother Africa III

There are controversial reality TV shows. And then there is Endemol’s Big Brother Africa whose third season kicks off Sunday 24th August. All the usual suspects will be there - Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The show will be shot on location in South Africa.

On the surface, the Big Brother game plan is as simple as can be. Lock up a group of disparate people in a house rigged with cameras and microphones (27 and 48 respectively to be precise) and then broadcast to the world their drinking, dancing, flirting, quarreling, cooking, showering, getting bored, sleeping, waking up – all the works. Slightly deeper it’s actually about human psychology which the viewers can see at work throughout the show as confinement and monotony take toll on the contestants. It plays on the contestants’ emotions and frustrates them to a point where their reactions are no longer what they would be in normal circumstances. To see or talk to no one except fellow housemates 24/7 for 3 months I think is the real test.

I’ve never bought the idea of contestants going in there to represent their countries. Represent their countries in what? Of what representation was Alex Holi of BBA1 and later Jeff of BBA2 to Kenya? Mwisho and Richard to Tanzania? Other than wrapping themselves in the national flag, contestants are there to have fun, promote themselves and have a shot at the grand prize. Gaetano of BBA1 for instance was thrust into the limelight courtesy of the show and is now doing well for himself. Others like Jeff promoted their books and their mushroom business, otherwise Kenya does not do her sit ups like that.

Ofunemama of Nigeria on the other hand…... of all the motherly hardworking good she may have done in the house throughout the show, the one thing people will always remember about her is finger gate - the seriously humiliating episode which biggie should have slotted in the late night uncensored show. That is if he had to air it at all. But then again it’s an unscripted show about nudity, sex, beer and romance and the contestants know what they’re getting themselves into. At least we learned something from that episode though. A girl does not drink until she’s comatose. If a girl misbehaves with a guy the big deal is on her……. not on the guy. Too bad.

The Middle East attempted their own version of Big Brother in 2004 with countries like Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Lebanon, Oman, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Somalia, Syria and Tunisia participating. But due to religious protests it did not air past week one. I never got to watch it but I’m sure it was nowhere near as immodest as what we have in BBA and other BB versions across the globe.
